Mission & vision

HOPE United Church of Christ is a progressive church whose mission is to witness to God’s compassion,

enable God’s justice, prosper God’s peace,  and be God’s presence.

The life, work, and teachings of Christ are the foundation of our faith. All are invited and all are welcome. Activities for all generations encourage understanding, knowledge, new skills, service and lasting friendships. Concern for others, near and far, and concern for God’s earth, translate into commitment and work for change.

Faith, hope and love abide.

values statement

Praying to seek God’s will and guidance for our lives and ministries. Claiming the sacredness of both our minds and our hearts, recognizing that faith and science, doubt and belief serve the pursuit of truth. Maintaining an atmosphere where humor, laughter and enthusiasm are present when we gather together, and faith, hope, love and trust abide in the hearts of all. Basing our lives on the faith that, in Christ, all things are made new, and that we, and all people, are loved beyond our wildest imagination—for eternity.

Bringing the message of Jesus Christ to others, using many avenues of approach. Strengthening the ministries of the church through individual empowerment. Standing, as Jesus did, with the outcast and oppressed, the denigrated and afflicted, and seeking peace and justice for all people. Engaging people authentically, as Jesus did, treating all as creations made in God’s very image, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, age, physical or mental ability, cultural background, nationality, or economic class. Working and cooperating with the United Church of Christ and other churches to do Christ’s work in this world.

Expressing our love in worship that is as sincere, vibrant, and artful as it is spiritual. Listening for God’s word that comes through daily prayer and meditation, studying the ancient testimonies which we call Scripture, and attending to God’s present activity in the world. Developing close and lasting friendships through small group ministries and shared experiences. Celebrating the God whose Spirit pervades and whose glory is reflected in all of God’s Creation including the earth and its ecosystems, the sacred and secular, the Christian and non-Christian, the human and non-human. Keeping our mission and vision a reality, with each member committed to giving of time, talent, and treasure to the extent that he or she is able.
